Peer Panel Review is a participative process for resolving workplace complaints and disagreements between an employee and his/her manager.
Like traditional dispute resolution processes, Peer Panel Review encourages open communication between the complainant and his/her direct supervisor and subsequent levels of management.
Unlike traditional dispute resolution approaches, Peer Panel Review allows the complainant to make a choice at the final step of the process --- to have the complaint heard by a designated senior-level manager or by a Peer Panel.
The Peer Panel consists of an odd number of members (usually 5) with the number of peers outnumbering the number of management representatives. The Peer Panel reviews the case and makes a final and binding decision to grant, deny, or modify the complainant's request.
The Peer Panel Review process:
- Promotes trust, fairness, consistency, and a feeling of ownership throughout the organization
- Provides a fair and just system for resolving disagreements
- Solves problems internally and reduces exposure to third party challenges
- Involves employees in the ultimate empowerment opportunity --- the resolution of complaints
The typical Peer Panel Review installation involves four components:
- A Management Briefing to provide an overview of the Peer Panel Review process, benefits, and implementation activities
- Design of the organization's Peer Panel Review policy, guidelines, evaluation system, and communication process
- Training of Panelists, Supervisors & Managers, and Panel Facilitators
- Process management, measurement, and evaluation to determine use and effectiveness of your Peer Panel Review system
